Lama Tharchin Rinpoche wrote this prayer of aspiration in response to the death of his nephew, Kalsang Norbu. The prayer illuminates the difference between how Kuntuzangpo, the original Buddha, perceives phenomena and how ordinary sentient beings perceive phenomena. Sentient beings’ minds are dualistic while the mind of Kuntuzangpo is non-dual wisdom. Sentient beings see the perceived subject of mind and object of phenomena as two separate things. This is confusion. The confused mind of a sentient being creates karma, which in turn creates suffering. That confusion and suffering are the nature of samsara. For Kuntuzangpo, however, all phenomena become the ornament of enlightened mind. Kuntuzangpo is actually the name of the essence of our original nature of mind, our primordially enlightened being. Within this original nature of mind, the entire phenomenal world arises as the non-dual display of Kuntuzangpo. Subjective and objective phenomena become one. This non-dual display is what is known as the mind-ornament of Kuntuzangpo.
