The Wish-Fulfilling Source of Attainments: A
Commentary on the Two Stages of “The Profound Path of the Dakini’s
Heart Essence” by His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche
The following is from Lama Tharchin Rinpoche:
The root text of the Khandro T’huk T’hik, “The Profound Path
of the Dakini’s Heart Essence”, arose as the mind treasure of His Holiness
Dudjom Rinpoche. It is the practice of the Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal in her
outer, inner, secret, and innermost secret forms. Related to this cycle,
His Holiness provided a commentary on the four stages of practice: creation
stage, tsa-lung, t’hab-lam, and the Dzogchen practices of trekchöd and
tögal.
My aim is to provide an explanation on tape of the complete path of
this cycle of teachings for my sangha who are interested in actually
putting the teachings into practice. Some of these teachings will benefit
anyone doing practice, while others will be made available to those who
are ready to practice each stage at the appropriate time. While some
of these tapes will be available through the Heart Teachings Video Series,
others will be available privately. In particular, Lama Yeshe Wangmo
has dedicated herself to collecting the teachings and translating the
texts related to this cycle of the Khandro T’huk T’hik through
the Jñana Sukkha Foundation. We continue to work on this together.
At this time, I want to provide an explanation of the first part of
His Holiness’ commentary that focuses on the creation stage. Since we
have so many people in our sangha practicing the Three Roots (Lama, Yidam,
and Dakini), it is my motivation that these teachings will help support
their practice. These teachings are suitable for those new to creation
stage practice, as well as those already familiar with the practice,
but wanting to deepen their understanding.
For those practitioners operating from conceptual mind, creation stage
practice offers a skilful path leading from the realm of dualistic concepts
into non-dual wisdom mind. While our ordinary dualistic concepts build
karma, using these same concepts through creation stage practice allows
us to build wisdom habit, which culminates in indestructible wisdom body,
inexpressible wisdom speech, and undeluded wisdom mind. This then becomes
the foundation for the other three stages of practice. Through practicing
with this kind of wisdom phenomena, we can attain the state of fully
enlightened Buddhahood in this very lifetime. Even if we do not attain
that state in this lifetime, then we can be certain to recognize the
true nature of the deity in the bardo after death. Ordinary sentient
beings have no concept of wisdom deity phenomena and easily become frightened
and confused in the bardo. This creation stage practice eliminates that
fear and confusion. In addition, during this lifetime, it helps to clear
all obstacles allowing us to receive the ordinary and extraordinary siddhis,
enabling us to gain the accomplishment of great wisdom power.
This, then, is my little offering to all those doing creation stage
practice, whether it is related to the Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal or to any
wisdom deity.
